JASON HEAD
TERM: 1st Term Apprentice
Tell us about your journey into the Oregon Laborers, what made you choose to become a construction craft laborer apprentice?
I worked in social services for over 10yrs and was getting burned out. I knew that I liked physical work. I decided to take a leap of faith and applied for the Laborers union.
I interviewed and started my orientation a couple of weeks later. I was excited to get to work with the union. I took the Asbestos class a couple of weeks after orientation and have been working in the abatement and demolition since June 22, 2021.
How has being in the apprenticeship program impacted your life?
I have lost over 30lbs since June. I can afford to have health and dental insurance for my family for the first time in years! I enjoy getting up and going to work, with feelings of accomplishment. This has been one of the best decisions of my life.
What advice would you give others who are interested in joining our program or are just starting out?
Work hard, be the first to the site, and be one of the last to leave. Ask questions, volunteer for things. No matter what do your best. Be safe!
